Sri Lankan envoy arrives

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JULY 4. The Sri Lankan special envoy, Mr. Lakshman Jayakody, who arrived here today on a three-day visit will call on the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, tomorrow.

He is said to be carrying a letter from the Sri Lankan President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, expressing Colombo's appreciation of New Delhi's support during the current crisis in the island nation.

The visit is part of the effort by Colombo to inform key foreign interlocutors on the situation in the country and the bid to build domestic consensus on granting substantive autonomy to the Tamil minority. Sri Lanka is apparently planning to send envoys to other countries including the U.S., Russia, China, Pakistan and Israel.
