CM warns beneficiaries of CMEY against misusing money

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 4. The Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu, has advocated stringent action against beneficiaries of the Chief Minister's Empowerment of Youth (CMEY) Programme resorting to corruption. Releasing assets worth Rs.5 crore here on Tuesday to 549 women's groups and 169 mixed groups formed under the programme in the twin cities, Mr.Naidu said that the misused money would be collected by using the Revenue Recovery Act.

In the current financial year, the Government would be spending Rs.300 crore on the CMEY programme which would be the highest ever in the country. The Centre had spent only Rs.100 crore so far while the State Government had spent Rs.200 crore, he said.

Addressing a gathering of CMEY beneficiaries, Mr.Naidu said that Hyderabad had become a city of opportunities and urged the youth to play a positive role in developing the State. Youth had tremendous potential and energy to change the face of the State in every field and unless channelised properly, the energy would go waste and result in destructive activities, he cautioned.

Asking people to think qualitatively, he said caste, creed and religion must not play any role in mutual cooperation. Explaining the concept of the programme he said CMEY meant joining hands together to walk in the path of progress. Finance was only one part of the issue and combined effort was the aim, he said. Hard work alone would benefit, Mr.Naidu told the youth and said many success stories had roots in poverty.

Expressing happiness at the success rate of women's self-help groups, Mr.Naidu said that corruption was resorted to by the men's groups and not by the women's groups. Going by the success rate of women's groups, a day might come when men would need reservations in the State, he said. He thanked women for supporting him in all his programmes. He said minorities could avail of loan facility from the State Minority Finance Corporation with the attestation of the MLAs and not necessarily with that of the MROs alone.

Mr.T.Seetaram, Minister for CMEY, Sports and Youth Affairs, said a time had come for people to become self-reliant rather than seek jobs. There would not be many jobs around to meet the requirement of all youth, he said. To upgrade the skills of beneficiaries, task forces had been formed in districts, he said. He added that the women gave a boost to the programme forcing the Government to increase the reservation from 33 to 50 per cent in the programme, he said. The target was to form 60,000 groups in the State involving about 10 lakh youth and Rs.440 crores would be spent on empowering them, he said.

Mr.K.Vijayarama Rao, Minister for Roads and Buildings, said that the beneficiaries must develop into a great force.

Mr.C.Krishna Yadav, Minister for Labour, said youth were indebted to the Chief Minister as he had given them a new lease of life with the CMEY programme.

Ms.Pushpaleela, Minister for Social Welfare, said that women supported the TDP because it was rendering a great service to them.

Ms.J.Lakshmi Padmavathi, Minister for Commercial Taxes, said that every programme of the Government was aimed at empowering entire families.

Mr.G.Sayanna, MLA, said youth were reaping the reward for hard work by becoming members of the self-help groups.

Mr.Akbaruddin Owaisi, MLA, sought immediate release of funds for the State Minority Finance Corporation as several applicants had not been released money due to paucity of funds.

The Hyderabad Collector, Mr.Bhanwarlal, the secretary of Youth Services, Ms.Chandana Khan, Dr.P.K.Mohanty, MCH Commissioner and Mr.R.Subramanyam, director of Youth Services, explained the benefits of the programme and urged the youth to utilise it to everyone's benefit.
