MYSORE, JULY 4. The Chief Minister, Mr. S.M.Krishna, is scheduled to visit Srirangapatna town in Mandya District on Wednesday to meet the released bonded labourers. Mr. Krishna will meet the released bonded labourers at the temporary rehabilitation centre, near the Nimashamba Temple in Srirangapatna.

The Deputy Commissioner of Mandya District, Mr. Atheeq, told The Hindu that the released bonded labourers would be provided with a rehabilitative package. Twenty-five houses would be distributed to them free of cost. Proposals were also in the offing to help them under the self employment scheme.

Each released bonded labourer will be paid Rs. 10,000. However, under the SC/ST Atrocities Act, Rs. 25,000 will be paid to them, of which a sum of Rs. 6,250 will be paid now and the rest, after the accused are convicted of the crime.

An inquiry is under progress and the statements of the released bonded labourers are being recorded. It may be recalled that the Divisional Commissioner, Mr. Lokare, has been directed to submit a report on the incident, for which he has called for submissions from the public.

The five accused in the case, including the owner of the quarry, Puttaswamy Gowda, former Mysore city corporator, who are under police custody, could not be produced before the court at Srirangapatna today. Sources said they would be held under police custody till July 14 and then they would be produced before the court.
