Scooter-borne youths go on chain-snatching spree

BANGALORE, JULY 4. Chain snatchers had a field day in the City
on Tuesday evening. Four cases of chain snatching were reported
within three hours from different areas.
Two youths on a scooter snatched three gold chains from women in
Banashankari and Tilaknagar police station limits between 4 p.m.
and 4.30 p.m.
A gold chain worth Rs. 40,000 was snatched from Ms.
Ananthalakshmi while she was walking in R.K.Colony in
Padmanabhanagar around 4 p.m. She was on her way to a temple when
the scooter-borne youths targetted her.
Within minutes, the duo snatched another gold chain worth about
Rs. 4,000 from Ms. Madhu, a resident of 24th Cross, Banashankari,
near P.E.S College. Banashankari police have registered two cases
and are investigating.
Ms. Leela Jayaram, who was walking by the 32nd G Cross in 4th T
Block, Jaynagar, was the third victim of the robbers. Her gold
chain worth about Rs. 16,000 was snatched by the youth who came
from behind on a scooter. Tilaknagar police have registered a
case.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Mr. T.Suneel Kumar,
told The Hindu that the same gang was involved in all these three
cases. Efforts are on to nab the culprits.
In another incident, two motorcycle-borne youths snatched a gold
chain from Ms. Geetha Kamath, who was walking with her baby, at
9th Main, 4th Cross, Vijayanagar, around 7 p.m.
Police said that as Ms. Kamath held the chain tightly, the
robbers could snatch only a portion of it worth about Rs. 10,000.
Vijayanagar police have registered a case.
