IT dept. asks details of payments from BCCI
MUMBAI, JULY 4. The Income Tax department is in the process of
ascertaining the payments received by the Indian cricketers in
the last 10 years. According to a source in the IT department,
the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been asked
to submit a detailed account of payments made to cricketers who
represented India in Tests and one-day Internationals since the
1991-92 season.
About 10 days ago the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT)
honoured Sachin Tendulkar, among 87 others, presenting him the
`Rashtriya Sanmaan Patra' for remitting substantial tax over a
period of time.
India has played 263 one-day Internationals and 65 Tests since
October 1991. The corresponding figures for the other eight Test
playing countries are: Australia 212 and 98, England 120 and 92,
New Zealand 173 and 71, Pakistan 269 and 76, South Africa 197 and
70, Sri Lanka 205 and 68, West Indies 190 and 71, Zimbabwe 138
and 43.
