26 arrested for pilfering power

HYDERABAD, JULY 9. Twentysix persons have been arrested for indulging in pilferage of power and an amount of about Rs. 25 lakhs was assessed during the special drive to curb pilferage of energy on Saturday.

According to a statement, a case was booked against E. Prasada Rao, owner of a hatchery at Ramachandrapuram village of Chittoor district. He had directly tapped power from a low-tension overhead line, causing a loss of Rs. 3.19 lakhs to the AP Transco. A case was registered against Srigopal of `Gopal Servicing Station' in Gaganpahad of Ranga Reddy district. In his case the loss was assessed at Rs. 1.73 lakhs.

In yet another case registered against Mr. Bal Reddy of M/s. Tirumala Venkateswara Slab Industry, Tadipatri of Anantapur district, the loss was assessed at Rs. 3.39 lakhs. The Government has deputed Mr. K. Durga Prasad, Joint Managing Director, AP Transco, to visit various districts for monitoring cases of pilferage of energy. Mr. Durga Prasad left for Vijayawada today to monitor the cases of power pilferage in the Southern Distribution Company consisting of Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Prakasam, Tirupati, Chittoor and Cuddapah districts.
