Clean the muck fast: Kirmani

KOCHI, JULY 9.The match-fixing enquiry is taking too long, feels former India stumper Syed Kirmani. ``They should see that the entire muck is cleaned... the sooner, the better,'' said the country's best-ever wicket-keeper here on Sunday evening.

Kirmani was in the city in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the Pooja all-India cricket tournament. And he released the tournament's logo at the Tripunithura Cricket Club this evening.

Cricket today has become too commercial and players are looking at short-cuts for success, he said.

``In our days, we played for the love of the game, not looking at any other aspect. Now so much money is involved, so the approach and attitude have changed,'' said the man who has accounted for 198 victims from 88 Tests.

``When we played, the grooming was different. It took time for us to go from one level to a higher level. The same grooming is not there. Now, with just one performance, players are in the team.

``Nobody wants to work hard, nobody wants to be a Prasanna, a Vishy or a Chandra...they all want short cuts. Unless you groom a person over a period of time, you cannot produce quality,'' he said.
