3,225 cases on power theft registered

HYDERABAD, JULY 16. During the special drive, the A.P.Transco had started registering criminal cases against those indulging in theft and pilferage of energy. After inspecting 60,994 services, about 3,225 cases were registered and the amount assessed during the drive was put at Rs. 3.04 crores.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the A.P.Transco said that 12 cases of pilferage of energy, one of direct tapping and 54 other malpractices were detected in the Southern Power Distribution Company (Vijayawada). So far, 13 cases were registered by the Anti Power Theft Squad with the amount assessed in these cases being put at around Rs. 8 lakhs.

A case was also registered against the owner of Abilash Hotel, RTC crossroads in the City who was found indulging in theft of energy after bypassing the meter. The losses sustained by the A.P.Transco in this case was calculated at Rs. 5.25 lakhs, the statement said.

Pilferage cases were registered against A. Narayan Reddy and Sailu of Kottur Mandal, Mahbubnagar district for indulging in power theft. Cases have also been registered against Ch. Mohan Rao of Mancherial Town, Mohd. Mousam Ali Khan and Mohd. Younus of the twin cities on similar charges.
