Indian team for under-15 World Cup
NEW DELHI, JULY 16. The Indian team for the Costcutter under-15
World Cup to be held in England will be the same as the one that
won the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) title at Kuala Lumpur
recently.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Joint Secretary
Mr. Jyoti Bajpai announced this after the National junior
selection committee met here on Sunday.
However, Vasudev Das of Tamil Nadu has been asked to be prepared
in case Naveen Chaudhary does not recover from a knee injury he
sustained recently.
The selection committee comprised Messrs Rajinder Goel
(chairman), Shashikant Khandkar, Mahendra M. Rajdev, S. Khan and
Ashish Sinha.
Assuring that the Board was strict about the age factor, Mr.
Bajpai said that under-15 cricket was very important and that the
Board would be giving more importance to junior cricket in the
future.
Coach Roger Binny exuded confidence and said that ``cricketers
were nowadays getting an opportunity to start their careers very
early and they should make the most of it.''
Binny was however, concerned about the weather conditions, which
would be new for the team, as well as the fielding department,
which he felt, could do with some improvement.
The Indian team will not have a camp before its departure on July
27, but will have the opportunity to play two warm-up matches
before its first engagement against England on July 30.
The West Indies and Holland are the other teams in India's group.
The topper from each group will advance to the semifinal stage.
The team: Subhash Dixit (captain), Mrigen Talukdar, Palash Jyoti
Das, Ashraf Ali, S.S. Thakur, Sushil Kumar, N. Rathod, R. Banik,
Abhinav Kumar, Irfan Pathan, Panv Raju, A.H. Rayudu, T. Sahu.
Stand bys : Vasudev Das, Parthiv Patel, T. Saini, S.A. Pai,
Gaurav Dhiman.
Coach : Roger Binny; Manager: Professor Ratnakar Shetty.
