Magsaysay for 2 Indians
MANILA, JULY 25. Two Indians, an Indonesian, a Chinese and a
Filipino have been chosen for this year's Ramon Magsaysay award
for public service, the trustees announced .
Ms. Aruna Roy from Rajasthan was given the community leadership
award for ``empowering Indian villagers to claim what is
rightfully theirs by upholding and exercising the people's right
to information''.
Mr. Jockin Arputham, founder of the Indian National Slum Dwellers
Federation, was honoured for international understanding.
