Anjuman men aimed at destabilisation
By Our Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM, JULY 25. The Deendar Anjuman activists involved in the
serial bomb blasts that rocked the State recently had much bigger
plans to destabilise the country. The communication and
transportation system was targeted by them after completing their
mission for creating communal disharmony by attacking places of
worship, according to highly placed sources associated with the
investigation into the blasts.
The Zamate Hizbulla Mujahaddin, which had picked up many youths
and the Deendar Anjuman activists for militancy training in
Pakistan, was all out to launch a proxy war by fomenting communal
violence. The outfit, headed by Syed Zia ul Hassan, wanted its
`soldiers of Jehad' to disturb the transport system so as to cut
off North India from the South since it sought to restrict the
war particularly to the north.
Syed Zia Ul Hassan, who migrated to Pakistan during partition,
visited Hyderabad in 1999. He convened a secret meeting of his
close aides in the Old City of Hyderabad on October 19 last year.
The meeting was attended by some members of Deendar Anjuman from
Nuziveed, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Hubli, Banglore, Chikballapur,
Nanded and Sholapur.
The occasion was utilised by Syed Zia Ul Hassan to give a call
for Jehad. He exhorted the followers to create hatred among the
various religious communities in India and disrupt the
communication system. He had appointed Syed Khaliq Uz Zaman of
Nuziveed, who had been working as an auditor in the Krishna
District Cooperative Central Bank, as the head of all groups of
Deendar Anjuman in South India.
The Deendar Anjuman groups in Andhra Pradesh were entrusted by
him with the task of identifying five active members each to
carry out the mission of the organisation. The participants had
another secret meeting in Hyderabad on November 26 to review the
progress in the implementation of the plans and to chalk out
further plans for fulfilment of its objective.
Syed Zia Ul Hassan had declared at the meeting that the real
`work' would start in two to three months' time. India would be
under attack of the Jehad army of the Jammate Hizbul Mujahiddin.
While appealing to the participants to be prepared for making
sacrifices, he also asked them to mobilize money for the mission.
Responding to his appeal, one Shaik Iqbal Ahamed of Vijayawada
sent Rs. 15,000 for the cause.
In another meeting held subsequently in a lodge at Osman Gunj in
Hyderabad, the ways and means to be adopted for creating communal
disturbances were discussed. They sought to raise money and
procure infrastructure. They also decided to commit offenses such
as robberies and dacoities to get money to intensify Jehad. A
robbery was committed near Gampalagudem in Tiruvuru police
station limits On February 4 last.
Another secret meeting was held in last March in the premises of
a private apartment near the Syndicate Bank branch of Mohdipatnam
in Hyderabad. The meeting was attended by Khaliq uz Zaman of
Nuziveed in his capacity as the chief of the Deendar Anjuman
groups in the south. A decision was taken at the meeting to plant
improved explosive devices fixed with timers at the gospel
meetings and churches.
It was decided in yet another secret meeting held this time in
the house of Khaliq uz Zaman in Nuziveed on March 25 last to
trigger explosions in Hubli, Medak, Vikarabad, Goa and a few
other places. The meeting was attended among others by a
Pakistani national, Syyed Zahed ul Hassan alias Zahid Pasha.
About two months after they held the crucial round of discussion
in the Nuziveed meeting, the blasts were engineered in the
Suvartha congregation at the Ladies Recreation Club Ground in
Machilipatnam on May 21.
The bombs were planted by Syed jilani, brother of Khaliq uz
Zamanin in a lavatory at the meeting place. He managed to escape
in a lorry from the place after the blast. Only three days after
the incident, he planted explosive devices in Kodanda Rama temple
in Krishnalanka locality of Vijayawada on May 25. The explosive
devices blasted in Markaz Mosque in Guntur had the timer fixed by
jilani who was arrested along with four other activists of
Deendar Anjuman in Khammam railway station on Monday.
His brother, Khaliq Uz Zaman, was also arrested along with three
others from a van on the Nuziveed-Eluru road on Saturday night. As
many as 18 persons have been arrested in connection with the
serial blasts so far.
Raids in Khammam dist
The CID officials had set the stage for conducting more raids in
Khammam and Nalgonda districts where the accused had some
connections. The house of one Farsat Ali, who had reportedly been
associated with the activities of the organisation, was raided by
them in Yellandu town of Khammam district. But the house was
found deserted. The sources said that Farsat Ali was at large
along with his family. The organisation had some members
operating in Kodad and Huzoornagar of Nalgonda district. Two
persons from the district were among the five arrested in
Khammam.
