Nation owes a debt of gratitude to Kargil heroes: Governor

HYDERABAD, JULY 26. War widows and next of kin of soldiers killed and disabled in the Operation Vijay were honoured at a function at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The Governor, Dr.C. Rangarajan presented shawls and medals to the family members of the war heroes, recalling the supreme sacrifice made by them to the nation.

Dr. Rangarajan, in his brief address to the gathering of serving and retired officers and family members, said the misadventure of Pakistan in Kargil was met successfully. It was a triumph of valour and strategy. He said the nation would not forget the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in combating the aggression thrust upon us. May the spirit of courage and commitment continue to prevail among the defence forces, he said.

The Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya, was also present.

Mrs Vimala Acharya, mother of late Maj Padmapani Acharya, Mrs P. Anuradha, wife of late Sgt P.N.V. Prasad, Mrs P. Sharada, wife of late L/Nk P. Gopinath, Mrs M.R. Vidya, wife of late L/Nk Mr.Y. Ramchander, Mrs M. Jyothi, wife of L/Nk M. Srinivas Reddy, Mrs P. Rajeswari, wife of late L/Nk P. Srinivasa Rao, Mrs C. Pramila, wife of Late Sub Chintada Mohan Rao, Mr. Shaik Bakshi, father of late sepoy Shaik Mastan Vali, Mr.K. Chinnavemaiah, father of late L/Nk K. Balaiah, Mrs Mumtaz Begum, mother of late Sapper Haji Basha, received medals from the Governor.

On behalf of the disabled war heroes, the following received the medals: Mr. Sanju Reddy, father of L/Nk V.S. Reddy, Mrs S. Narmada, wife of L.Nk S. Ganganna, Mrs R. Annapurna, mother of Capt B.S.V. Simha, Mr.K. Pullaiah, father of Gnr K. Veeraiah, Mrs Ch. Suridamma, mother Gnr C. Simhachalam, Mrs T. Sailaja, wife of Gnr T. Neelachalam, Mrs Urmila Devi, wife of Nk G.Venkateswara Rao, Mrs Usha Rao, wife of Nk S.A.S. Narayana Rao, Mrs Laxmi Devamma, mother of Ptr S.H.N. Reddy, Mrs Devender K. Chhatwal, mother of Capt H.S. Chhatwal, and Maj OJR Reddy. Mr.T. Parthasarathy, father of Gallantry awardee Capt T. Rajagopal, was also honoured at the function.
