'Hey Ram' going places

By S. R. Ashok Kumar

CHENNAI, JULY 26. The Toronto International Film Festival will screen Kamal Haasan's `Hey Ram' during its Silver Jubilee celebrations this year. The Tamil film is said to be the official entry of the festival.

`Hey Ram' is now going places and it is to be screened on the concluding day at the (Switzerland) Locarno Film Festival on August 12. Kamal Haasan is attending the festival and will be introduced to the audience.

The Toronto festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary from September 7 to 16. The recent polls in The Los Angeles Times rated it as the number one festival in the world.

The Toronto festival had always been about commerce and art, glamour and beauty. In the recent past the festival had gala screenings of several prestigious films from around the world which included Cousin, Cousine, Jeanne Moreau's `Lumiere' and Francesco Rosi's `Illustrious Corpses'.

`Hey Ram', which won three national awards this year, is scripted and directed by Kamal Haasan. He has acted along with Shah Rukh Khan, Nasser, Hemamalini, Rani Mukerjee, Vasundra Das, Atul Khulkarni and Naseerudeen Shah.

Kamal Haasan, who has been invited to Toronto, said ``I am happy that `Hey Ram' is truly going international and liked by all the foreign festival authorities and I am getting more queries from various film festivals abroad. This shows the technical and aesthetical marvel we have created on the celluloid. I thank the Toronto festival authorities for selecting my film in their Silver Jubilee year.''
