Mahesh Chandran back to winning ways
CHENNAI, AUG. 6. National under-18 champion P. Mahesh Chandran of
Chennai rediscovered his winning ways to defeat Ben Morgan and
move to fifty per cent score at the end of the sixth round of the
Smith & Williamson British chess championship at Somerset on
Saturday.
Former two-time world age group champion Koneru Humpy from
Vijayawada was held to a draw by lower rated Oliver Jackson with
the black pieces. Humpy and Mahesh are together on three points
from six games.
Following her debacle in Hyderabad recently, Aarthie Ramaswamy
(Elo: 2319) from Chennai continued her poor form losing to lower
rated David Spence (Elo: 2153). She is on two points from six
games.
The three Indians have lost out on a fine start. Humpy and Mahesh
are tied for the 29th to 41st places and Aarthie is in a tie for
the 53rd to 60th places. There are 69 players competing.
GM Chris Ward defeated WGM Harriet Hunt in the second table to
move to five points and join GM Mark Hebden in the lead with five
points from six games.
