AMG International donates Rs 15 lakhs to farmers
By Our Staff Reporter
CHILAKALURIPET, AUG. 9. The AMG India International has donated a
sum of Rs 15 lakhs to farmers in Chilakaluripet for resolving the
crisis that is coming in the way of settling the logjam in land
acquisition for the construction of the second summer storage
tank to cater to the needs of the people in the municipality.
The AMG authorities on Wednesday distributed cheques for Rs
20,000 each to all the farmers whose land was acquired for the
purpose of the construction of the tank. In fact the AMG India
International's chief donor, Dr. Diechmann, donated Rs 4 crores
for the construction of the tank quite some time ago. As part of
the programme, the Government authorities acquired 75 acres of
land. The Government decided to pay a sum of Rs 95,000 each to
all those whose land was acquired for the purpose, as it could
not pay more than Rs 1 lakh per acre towards compensation as per
the norms. Dissatisfied with the decision, the farmers did not
come forward to agree to the proposal.
Against this background, the AMG India International intervened
and decided to pay Rs 15 lakhs to the farmers to ensure that the
work was taken up at the earliest. The cheques were distributed
by the local MLA, Mr. Prathipati Pulla Rao, the president of the
AMG India International, Dr.S.John David, and the Director of
AMG, Dr. Arun Kumar Mohanty, the Municipal Chairman, Mr. B. Rama
Murthy, and the MRO, Mr. P. Venkateswarlu.
Addressing a meeting after the distribution of the cheques, the
legislator, Mr. Pulla Rao, said that he would invite the Chief
Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, to lay the foundation for the
summer storage tank in November. Dr. John David disclosed that
the chief donor, Dr. Diechmann, was prepared to donate Rs 50
lakhs for providing drinking water facility to the poor in the
slum areas in Chilakaluripet. He requested the municipal chairman
to get the project report prepared at the earliest for the
implementation of the same with the donation being made. Dr. Arun
Kumar Mohanty sought the concerned to help in completing the
project at the earliest.
The speakers exuded confidence that the imbroglio surrounding the
land acquisition would be over with the assistance offered by the
AMG so that the construction of the tank could be completed in
order to make it ready in a couple of years, if not by next
summer.
