Unexpected 'holidays' hit VTU students

THE UNEXPECTED "holidays" following Mr. Rajkumar's abduction have affected the engineering students of Visvesvaraya Technological University most. They called newspaper offices to find out whether the practical examinations from August 4 would be held as scheduled.

Some students here complained that they were prevented from meeting the principal of their college for information. One of them said that the ABVP, which contacted VTU on their request, was told that the timetable had been sent to the colleges 12 days in advance. The principal, the student said, announced that the timetable would be put up in the notice board at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and they should attend the examinations from Monday.

The Government then declared that schools and colleges would be closed on August 7 and 8 also. The university postponed the practical exams again in colleges in Bangalore and Mysore. They again had to make frantic calls to newspaper offices to confirm this.

With the confusion over the delay in holding examinations, uncertain schedules and even delay in issuing hall tickets in some cases, students have had a hard time. Coordination between the various colleges and the university would help solve such problems.
