Semifinal hit by rain
MUMBAI, AUG. 9. The second semifinal of the Costcutter World
under-15 challenge between South Africa and West Indies was
interrupted by rain on Tuesday at Hove and abandoned for the day
when the former was 191 for five in 42 overs.
When torrential rain forced the players off the field, South
Africa's 15-year-old left-hander Divan van Wyk was unbeaten with
a superb 78 off 94 balls, his second half century in nine days.
The Bloemfontein-based schoolboy has a century under his belt
already in the competition.
Vaughn van Jaarsveld, from Guateng, slammed 55 off 74 balls and
was also involved in a 105-runs fourth-wicket stand before he
sacrificed his wicket in quest of quick runs.
If it rains all day on Wednesday, South Africa will go through to
the final against Pakistan at Lord's on Thursday as it has won
more group matches than the West Indies which finished runner-up
to England, the losing semi-finalist, in Group A.
If play is possible, but a positive result cannot be achieved,
then the Duckworth-Lewis method will come into force.
