Not missile tests: Pak.
ISLAMABAD, AUG. 23. Pakistan has rejected as ``baseless and
ridiculous'' reports that mysterious flying objects sighted over
western Baluchistan province last week were missile tests.
``As a matter of established practice, Pakistan has notified all
concerned, including neighbouring countries, whenever it has
carried out medium and long-range missile tests,'' a Foreign
Ministry statement today said.
Military officials and a Government spokesperson contacted by AFP
today said they knew nothing of the results of the
investigations. The objects appeared to be flying in formation,
trailing flames, over six districts of Baluchistan, including the
capital Quetta, witnesses and officials said.
Witnesses said they ``looked like missiles'' but a military
spokesman later ruled out the possibility they were weapons and
suggested they were probably comet fragments.
He said there were no Air Force or commercial planes in the area
at the time and Air Force radar monitors reported nothing out of
the ordinary. Air Force officers in Quetta refused comment.
