Railway Bill approved
NEW DELHI, AUG. 25. Parliament has approved the Railway
Appropriation (No 3 and 4) Bill, 2000 with the Rajya Sabha
returning the Bill today.
The Bill was piloted by the Railway Minister, Ms. Mamata
Banerjee.
The Members, who participated in the debate, spoke about the
inadequate security measures and lack of amenities at the railway
stations.
They also highlighted lack of quality food and safe drinking
water at the stations.
Replying to the debate, Ms Banerjee said that under the newly
launched decentralisation scheme, the GMs have been given 25 per
cent powers so that they need not depend on the Board or the
Ministry for implementing their decisions.
