Three TNLA men's remand extended
By Our Staff Reporter
ERODE, AUG. 25. The remand of the three TNLA activists,
Manikantan, Muthukumar and
Sathyamurthy, whose release has been demanded by the forest
brigand, Veerappan, was extended for 15 days today. The trio were
arrested by the Q Branch police in connection with the attack on
the Vellitiruppur police station at Bhavani taluk in December
1998.
All the three were today produced before the Judicial magistrate,
Mr. Krishnan, who extended the remand period for 15 days till
September 8 and ordered them to appear before him on that day.
After the extension of the remand, they were taken back to the
Central Jail, Tiruchi.
Meanwhile, two other accused in the Vellitiruppur police station
attack case - Rasu alias Vaikunthan and Mahalingam - who were on
bail, presented a petition today for their release to the Bhavani
Magistrate, through their counsel, Mr. Senthil. They pleaded that
when the Government was considering the release of Manikantan,
Muthukumar and Sathyamurthy, the Magistrate may also release
them.
