Jawan laid to rest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM AUG. 25. The body of Lance Naik Rajendran Pillai (33), killed in a rocket attack by militants in Jammu on Monday, was laid to rest with full military honours at his natal home at Edakkad, near Sasthamcotta, this evening. The body arrived by air to the city and was received by the Kollam District Collector, Mr. Kamal V. Rao. The Irrigation Minister, Mr. V.P. Ramakrishna Pillai, placed a wreath on behalf of the State Government. The Kollam MP, Mr. P. Rajendran, along with officers from the Indian Army accompanied the body to Eadakkad, where it was kept at the Kadampanad KRKPM High School for the public to pay their last respect. The body was later taken to Edakkkad for the funeral.

On arrival at the Air Force base, wreaths were laid by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. A. K. Antony, Colonel A. J. George, Colonel P. S. Sundaram, Major Chowdhary and Wing Commander Y. Jain. Others who paid homage include Mr. Gangadhara Kurup, chairman, Kerala Public Service Commision, Mr. P. J. Jurien, former Union Minister, Ms. S. Leela, president of the Sooranadu panchayat, Mr. V. K. Balachandran, ADM, Mr. Balachandran, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shanghumugham, and Mr. K. Ramachandran, ADM, Kollam.
