Bangalore to host construction equipment fair

NEW DELHI, AUG. 25. Bangalore will host the biggest ever exhibition and conference on construction equipment from December 12 to 16.Conceived and billed as ``EXCON 2000'', the event sponsored and supported by the Union Ministry of Surface Transport and the Government of Karnataka is aimed at brining together the manufacturers and users to provide a further thrust to growth of basic infrastructure in the country as construction activity is seen as a vital input.

Noting that the proposed fair would be first of its kind in Asia to be organised by Confederation of Indian Industry, Karnataka, Mr. Ravi Uppal, Chairman, CII Karnataka, and Managing Director, Volvo India Pvt. Limited, said the exhibition and conference were aimed at providing cost effective solutions to the country's growing infrastructure requirements as it would showcase the latest equipment and techniques for the construction industry.

Almost all major players among the construction equipment makers would be participating in the exhibition to be held at Palace Grounds. Leading players who have already confirmed their participation include BEML, Caterpillar, Ingersoll Rand, L&T Komatsu, Telco Construction Company and Volvo India.

Underlining the importance being attached by the Government to the construction industry as part of the infrastructure development, he said the Government had already taken several initiatives and had made specific provisions for this sector in the Union Budget.
