Chennai leg of National Motocross on Aug. 27

CHENNAI, AUG. 25. Phase II of MRF-National Motocross championship 2000 goes on steam at the Indian Airlines Stadium on Sunday. Over 70 competitors are expected for the fourth leg after the Pune, Nasik and Jaipur races. After the Chennai edition, there will be two more - at Kochi on October 8 and Bangalore on December 3.

The rider garnering the highest number of points will be declared the National champion.

Detailing the features of the motocross at a media gathering on Thursday, Mr. Sheriff Dyan, pinpointed the role of Indian Motorcycle Sports Association (IMSA) in encouraging two- wheeler drivers. The current championship will be held under the aegis of Motor Sports Association of India (MAI).

Mr. Dyan said some of the top names in the two-wheeler category would be in action. They include the current leader on points, Zubin K. Patel of Mumbai followed by Nippender Jassy of New Delhi.

The competition will also feature imported bikes upto 250cc and Indian-makes ranging from 81cc to 150cc. Apart from Zubin Patel and Jassy, the list of participants includes Jaipur's Kunal Singh, Barguaje of Pune, Hyderabad's Mazadayar Vatcha, M.R. Dastur, S.E. Suresh, Emmanual Clarke, and Satish from Chennai. The riders will have to negotiate one major and three mini Table Tops and a dozen curves stretching to 600 metres per lap. The races are run according to specification laid down by the International Motorcycles Federation.

Apart from MRF, TVS-Suzuki and Indian Oil Corporation are also associated with the event.
