Two shot dead by naxals

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, SEPT. 3. Suspected naxalites belonging to the banned People's War Group shot dead two persons, including a former surrendered militant of the same organisation, in separate incidents in Nizamabad and Adilabad districts on Sunday.

The first incident took place in Rajampet village under Bhikanoor police station limits, 90 km from here, and the other in Manneguda village of Nannel mandal in Adilabad district.According to reports reaching here, three suspected militants of the underground outfit went to Rajampet village and picked up Kishan, 30, a former militant, who surrendered before the police and whisked him away to the village outskirts. The naxals are understood to have shot him dead from close range.

The naxalites left behind a letter in the name of Himagiri and Puligubba squad area committee leaders, Dayanand and Manohar, accusing him of being a police informant and member of `Nalla dandu', an outfit floated by former extremists to take on the PWG. This is the second killing in as many days in the district by the PWG.

The Superintendent of Police, Dr. Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, told TheHindu this evening, that the victim was not a police informant nor was he ever associated with the so called `Nalla dandu' group, which did not exist in the district. He said the naxals were killing innocents by branding them police informants.

In the second incident, six members of the PWG accosted Md. Jani, a resident of Nannel mandal headquarters of Adilabad district and shot him dead. Md. Jani, according to the Bellampalli ASP, Mr. N. Sanjay, used to help the Nannel police in serving summons in interior villages affected by naxalites. On Sunday also, he went to Manneguda village on some personal work, when he was rounded up by the naxalites, believed to be members of the Kotipalli squad. The naxals fired at him killing him on the spot.
