BJP may take tough stand against Shivappa

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, SEPT. 3. A decision on the expulsion or otherwise from the party of Mr. B.B.Shivappa, MLA from Sakleshpur, who is under suspension on grounds of indiscipline and anti-party activities, is likely to be taken by the BJP State unit in a couple of days.

Mr. Shivappa was suspended from the party nearly a year ago following a violent incident in front of the party headquarters here during the election of the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and served with a notice to show cause why he should not be expelled form the party. He had, however, denied his role in the incident.

The issue, hanging fire since then, is expected to figure at the meeting of the State executive of the party being held here on Monday to discuss the law and order and also the political situation in the State.

The indications are that the party is likely to take a hard stand on the Shivappa issue, specially in the context of his defiant stand and his reaction of contempt for the demand of some senior leaders that he apologise for the incident "as he was not responsible for it".
