India draws with Malaysia
TIRUPATI, SEPT. 3 The second Test match between India and
Malaysia under-18 ended in a draw 2-2, played at Sri Venkateswara
Arts College grounds here on Sunday evening.
If the number of goals scored or the result any yardstick, both
Indian and Malaysian teams performed equally good or otherwise.
They shared four goals-two goals a piece. Except for some
sporadic raids both the teams were less impressive.
India went into lead by virtue of its captain Surinder Kaur's
second minute field goal and could have consolidated had it not
played easy in the initial stages, at least as far as finishing
is concerned. Later in the 15th minute Malaysia earned a penalty
corner which was neatly converted by the captain Devaleela. At
the breather it was 1-1.
Five minutes into the second half, with a repeat performance,
Malaysia surged ahead into lead by virtue of penalty corner
conversion by Devaleela. In the 56th minute after a pass during
penalty corner, Surinder Kaur equalised the score.
With this draw India leads Malaysia 1-0 in the series, having won
the first encounter at Chennai. The third Test match would be
held in the same venue on September 5.
