No decision on putting off Bhavnagar corpn. polls
By Our Special Correspondent
GANDHINAGAR, SEPT. 15. Even as normal life remained disrupted in
the coastal city of Bhavnagar in the Saurashtra region which
experienced repeated tremors, no decision has yet been taken on
postponing the elections to the city municipal corporation
scheduled for Sunday.
The State Election Department said it had not received
representation from any of the parties seeking postponement of
elections. The State Government is still awaiting a report from
the district collector to forward its recommendation to the
department. Campaigning ended this evening in all the six
municipal corporation areas which will go to the polls.
More tremors
The city experienced four more tremors last night, all of mild
intensity. Most of the residents have preferred to spend their
nights in makeshift tents or open gardens.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Keshubhai Patel, visited the city to
supervise the relief operations today. Mr. Patel was in Bhavnagar
on Monday night when the city was hit by a series of tremors.
CMO denies reports
UNI reports:
The Chief Minister's Office today sternly denied reports that Mr.
Patel's convoy was stoned in Bhavnagar. Sources in the CMO
described the report as completely ``baseless''.
