11 agreements to be signed during Putin's visit

MOSCOW, SEPT. 15. Eleven bilateral agreements, including the much- awaited Indo-Russian declaration on strategic partnership, are likely to be signed during President Vladimir Putin's visit to India on October 2-5. Terming Putin's visit as a ``significant political step'', the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Alexander Losyukov, today said preparations for Mr. Putin's visit to New Delhi have entered the final phase.

Meanwhile, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Iliya Klebanov, is leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday on a 3-day visit to set the stage for Mr. Putin's summit meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee and finalise at least 10 bilateral agreements besides the much-awaited Indo- Russian declaration on strategic partnership.

Mr. Putin's visit will be ``quite contentful'', Mr. Klebanov told Itar-Tass today adding the agreements to be signed in New Delhi would cover a large spectrum of bilateral cooperation from military, technical cooperation to interaction in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods and aviation.

Mr. Klebanov, is to hold extensive talks in New Delhi with the Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, and the Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes.
