Stern action against misbehaving bus crew
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 15. The Transport Commissioner, Mr.
K.P. Somarajan, has urged the public, especially women commuters,
having complaints about misbehaviour of staff of the buses to
bring them to the notice of the authorities.
The Transport Commissioner, in a release here today, said that a
directive had been issued to the Regional Transport Officer,
Joint Regional Transport Officer and police officials for them to
take stern action against the guilty in such cases.
It has come to the notice that the bus staff misbehave with
women, school and college girls and handicapped people. The buses
do not pick up students from stops and they are not allowed to
sit even on vacant seats and that the staff remain on the
footboard when women and girl students enter and alight.
Complaints have also come up that men sitting in the seats
reserved for women are never asked to move out by the bus crew.
The Assembly Committee for the Welfare of Women, Children and
Handicapped headed by Prof. Meenakshi Thampan, MLA, has taken
note of the complaints and given instructions to initiate action.
