Putin to arrive on Oct. 2
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 20. The Foreign Office today formally announced
the three day visit to India by the Russian President, Mr.
Vladimir Putin, from October 2.
During his stay, the Russian leader will hold discussions with
the President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan and the Prime Minister, Mr.
Atal Behari Vajpayee.
India and Russia during the visit are expected to sign a
declaration on ``strategic partnership''. This declaration,
according to a Foreign Office statement, will elevate the Indo-
Russian ties to a qualitatively new and higher level. It is
expected to define the broad parameters of Indo-Russian relations
in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Ilya Klebanov,
arrived here today to finalise various defence deals expected to
be signed during Mr. Putin's visit.
