Oil prices to go up
As world oil prices soar to record levels,
the Central Government is gearing to meet the impact by raising
the prices of oil products and cutting taxes. The extent of the
hike will depend on the Finance Ministry's willingness to reduce
import and excise duties on crude oil and petroleum products.
Chota Rajan shifted to undisclosed place
Thai authorities have shifted the underworld
don, Chota Rajan, to an undisclosed destination from a local
hospital where he was undergoing treatment for gunshot injuries
sustained in an attack even as one of the arrested assailants
vowed to hunt down and kill him within three months.
Bandh hits life in Mysore
The bandh called by various pro-Kannada
organisations on Friday, protesting against the delay in securing
the release of the Kannada matinee idol, Mr. Rajkumar, disrupted
life in Mysore city. Police said the bandh was peaceful.
Gopal yet to meet Veerappan

Telecom unions today warned of another
nation-wide strike if the Union Cabinet failed to approve the
agreement signed by them with the Communications Ministry on job
security and guaranteed pension from the Consolidated Fund of

The Justice Liberhan Commission, probing the
conspiracy angle in the demolition of the disputed structure in
Ayodhya, today ordered issue of summons to the Union Minister,
Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, and Ms. Uma Bharati to depose on October
