Vice-Admiral Ganesh to head ATV programme

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 28. Vice Admiral R. N. Ganesh will head the
country's top secret Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) programme,
highly placed sources in the Government said.
The ATV is the code-name for the indigenous nuclear submarine
project. Vice Admiral Ganesh who is the only Indian to have
commanded the nuclear submarine, Chakra, which India had leased
from the erstwhile Soviet Union, will replace Vice Admiral V.B.
Bhushan (Retd.). Vice Admiral Ganesh will become the first
serving Admiral to head the prestigious nuclear submarine
project.
Sources pointed out that the navy's top brass is expected to be
reshuffled in the coming months. Vice Admiral P. J. Jacob, the
Vice Chief of Naval Staff will retire in February. Vice Admiral
Harinder Singh, who is currently the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff,
is expected to head the Southern Command.
