Pak. SC convicts 7 PML activists

ISLAMABAD, SEPT. 28 The ousted Prime Minister, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, suffered another blow today, with the Pakistan Supreme Court sentencing seven PML activists to one-month imprisonment and imposing fine for storming the court premises in 1997.

They have been convicted on charges of contempt of court. Those convicted have been found guilty of storming the court premises when it was hearing a case against Mr. Sharif.

Among the seven sent to jail are Mr. Tariq Aziz, a well-known television personality and Mr. Akhtar Rasool, a former Olympian.

The storming of the court premises had created a stir and it was condemned as a threat to an independent judiciary.
