Dussera celebrated with gaiety
NEW DELHI, OCT. 7. Dussera, the festival celebrating the victory
of good over the evil, was celebrated today with fervour and
gaiety.
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, joined the
festivities at Ram Lila grounds where effigies of demon king
Ravana, Meghnada and Kumbhakarna were burnt.
Mythologically the festival marks the slaying of Ravana by Lord
Rama and has come to be observed as the triumph of righteousness
and truth. The effigies were burnt to the burst of crackers in
various parts of the capital.
The day also marks the culmination of the Durga Puja and Navratri
festivals.
