U.N. team for Sierra Leone

UNITED NATIONS, OCT. 7. Eleven members of the United Nations Security Council are leaving for the troubled Sierra Leone to review the UN mission there and explore ways to promote stability in the region.

Headed by Britain's Ambassador to the UN, Sir Jeremy Greenstock, the team will visit Guinea, Sierra Leone, Mali, Niger and Liberia for discussions with the top officials of these States.

``We want to find ways with all the leaders that we are meeting in the region of getting out of the pit that is being dug by this conflict and to discuss with them how to end the illegitimate activity and meet legitimate requirements of all the Governments that we talk to,'' Sir Greenstock told a news conference here today on the eve of mission's departure. The members plan to assess the situation prior to considering the next stage of the mission, including possible expansion of the 13000-strong UN mission in Sierra Leone. The visit is being organised amid rising concerns over a series of cross-border incursions in the region which are exacerbating the plight of refugees.
