5 killed in mine mishap

GODAVARIKHANI, OCT. 7. Five Singareni Collieries Company Limited employees were killed and two others injured when the roof of 9 number mine caved in on Friday night during the second shift in the Ramagundam region. The head overman, Mr. Tirumalashetty Rammohan Rao, coal fillers - Mr. S. Yellaiah, Mr. E. Mallaiah and Mr. K. Rajaiah - were killed on the spot and Mr. G. Mallaiah died while undergoing treatment in hospital in the early hours of Saturday. The two other coal fillers - Mr. B. Rajaiah and Mr. Posham - sustained serious injuries. The injured have been shifted to Singareni Area Hospital.

According to the police, the mishap occurred 1.2 km from the surface when the employees were filling coal in the tubs and suddenly a huge portion of the mine roof caved in.
