Bombs, weapons seized
By Our Staff Reporter
KANNUR, OCT. 7. The police seized 10 powerful country bombs and
some weapons from the house of a suspected CPI(M) worker at
Kaivelikkal under the Panur police station limits here today
during a raid.
This was the first seizure of bombs and weapons since the police
started extensive raids in the area in the wake of the incidents
of violence in connection with the local bodies election.
The police said the bombs seized from the house of one K.
Govindan are known as `steel bombs' in the region. His son
Suresh, a suspected CPI(M) worker, is accused in two cases of
murder - of the BJP worker Kelu at Vilakkottur in 1995 and of
Zubair near Panur a few months ago.
The weapons seized from the premises included three swords, two
iron rods and one hatchet. The bombs and weapons were found
during the search in the house at 3 p.m. by the police team
headed by Mr. K.P. Kuberan Namboodiri in connection with the
investigation into the murder cases.
Meanwhile, the Dharmadom police arrested 13 BJP workers in
connection with the incident of assault on a CPI(M) worker, V.P.
Gireeshan (35), at Bavachimukku, near Thalassery, late night on
Friday. A BJP worker, Mahesh (24), had also suffered stab
injuries in the incidents of clashes in the area. Both have been
hospitalised.
The police arrested the BJP workers, V.K. Anoop (24), K.K.
Lileesh (23), V.K. Aneesh (23) and V.K. Prajeesh (20) in the case
of the attempted murder of Gireeshan.
