Burglary bid in three houses
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, OCT. 7. Burglars struck in three houses on Naickenmar
Street in West Mambalam when the inmates were away on Thursday.
The exact value of the missing articles was not immediately
known. However, police said they were only attempts, and nothing
had been stolen.
In another incident, burglars entered a house at Karpagam Flats
in Sornambigai Nagar at Virugambakkam and escaped with cash and
jewels. The inmates, who had been since September 23, returned on
Friday, only to find the house ransacked.
This is the second incident in the area in one week. Last
Tuesday, about 35 sovereigns were reported stolen from a theatre
owner's house on Vinayagam Street.
Among other incidents during the week, a house break-in was
reported in Vengupillai Street in Egmore, a `hundi' was stolen
from a temple in Foreshore Estate and a car stereo was stolen
from a vehicle parked near the Ayyappan Temple in Anna Nagar.
Car stereo was removed from a car parked in front of an Internet
surfing centre. Residents said several such incidents had
occurred in the same area earlier.
