Plea to produce Nagappa before court
By Our Correspondent
BANGALORE, OCT. 7. Mr. Justice A.V.Srinivasa Reddy and Mr.
Justice Sreedhar Rao, constituting a vacation Division Bench in
the Karnataka High Court, have ordered issue of notice to the
Director-General of Police in a public interest writ petition
filed by Mr. Hottepaksha Rangaswamy seeking a direction to the
police to produce Mr. Nagappa, assistant film director, before
the court to narrate the facts of his "escape" from Veerappan.
The petitioner stated that Mr. Nagappa was giving different
versions of his "escape" which were creating confusion among the
people about the abduction crisis. The petitioner stated that the
kidnapping episode was pre-planned by Mr. M.Karunanidhi, Chief
Minister of Tamil Nadu, for his personal gain with an eye on the
coming general elections in Tamil Nadu. It was alleged that Mr.
Gopal, editor of Nakeeran, was acting as broker for the two
governments, and he had made a lot of money in the process.
A direction was sought to the Tamil Nadu Government to pay Rs.
500 crores as compensation to the Karnataka Government for having
"blackmailed" the latter and creating a political crisis.
