Council of Churches submits memo to President

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, OCT. 7. The A.P. Council of Churches on Saturday appealed to the President, Dr. K.R. Narayanan, to "restore justice" to the Christians of the Scheduled Caste origin so that they were treated on par with other SCs.

In a memorandum submitted to the President here, the Council said the Presidential Order of 1950 and 1956 discriminated against Christians of the SC origin on the basis of religion and a bill also was passed favouring the neo-Buddhists.

And, though promises were made nothing tangible was done to remove this anomaly, the Council said and sought the intervention of Mr. Narayanan in this matter, according to a press release.
