Plea against religious teachings in school curriculum
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, OCT. 7. The All-India Anglo-Indian Educational
Institution (AAEI) has opposed the proposal of the National
Council of Education Research and Training to "include religious
teachings in school curriculum".
"Education has done very well without this input called
religion," the AAEI president and Chairman of the Indian School
Certificate Examination (ISCE) Council, Mr. Neil O' Brien, said
at its annual general body meeting here on Saturday. The AAEI is
an agency of the ISCE Council which has 860 schools all over the
country.
Mr. Neil O' Brien, who is also president-in-chief of the All-
India Anglo-Indian Association, said Anglo-Indian education had
"historically done a great job" in the country introducing
several new systems such as kindergarten, nursery, arts and
crafts besides spreading "sound general education through the
medium of English language".
The meeting resolved to strive for a greater representation to
the Anglo-Indian community in the new States that were created
recently as also the original ones. The MLA, Mrs. Della Godfrey,
and AAEI representatives from all over the country were present.
