All set for Vidyarambham today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 7. Preparations are in full swing at various temples and venues in the city for the Vidyarambham ritual on October 8, when a large number of children would be initiated into the world of letters.

So many have registered for Vidyarambham at the prestigious Navarathri Mandapam of the Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple. The initiation in front of the idol of Saraswathi at the mandapam, which is believed to have been worshiped by poet Kambar, is considered to be very auspicious.

The ceremonies would commence at the mandapam at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The scholars, Dr. V.S. Sharma, Mr. K.K. Krishnan Nambuthiri, Mr. V.K.S. Nambuthiri and Mr. B. Kesavan Potti, would initiate the children.

Vidyarambham rituals would be conducted in the traditional manner at the Thunchan Smarakam at Iranimuttam here on Sunday. The `Vidyarambha Jyothi' was lit today by Dr. T.G. Ramachandran Pillai. Cadjan leaf manuscripts and various work equipment were placed for pooja this evening. The literary personalities, Mr. D. Damodaran Potti, Dr. Prabodhachandran Nair, Prof. G.N. Panicker, Dr. Mavelikkara Achuthan and Prof. P. Raghuraman Nair, would initiate the children here from 8 a.m.

The children brought for Vidyarambham here would be made to write `Hari Sree' in the sand specially brought for this occasion from Thunchan Parambu at Tirur, birth place of Thunchathu Ezhuthachan.

Prof. Kattur Narayana Pillai would initiate the children into the art of painting and Prof. Avaneeswaram Ramachandran would lead the children into the music world.

The spiritual leader, Ma Anandamayi, would perform the Vidyarambham rituals at the Sakthipada Ashram at Vellayambalam while poet Kavalam Narayana Panicker would lead the ceremonies organised by the Thapasya Cultural Forum at the Samskrithi Bhavan. The director of Doordarsan, Ms. Radha Namboodiri, would initiate the children at the Jawahar Balabhavan.

The Vidyarambham would also be conducted at the Kumaran Asan Memorial at Thonnakkal from 7 a.m. The IMG director, Dr. G. Balamohan Thampi, sculptor Kanayi Kunhuraman and the Dr. N.A. Karim would be the acharyas here. Prof. Panmana Ramachandran Nair would initiate the children at the Chattambiswami Mandapam at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple.

The Director of All India Radio, Mr. G. Jayalal, would initiate the children at the police headquarters while Prof. P. Gopalaraman would lead the ceremonies at the Seetharama Bhaktha Sabha Hall at Sreevaraham.

The initiation rituals would also be held at the Poojappura Mandapam, Sreevaraham Vanitha Samithi, Sree Dharma Sastha Temple at Pangode, Sreekanteswaram Durga Devi Temple, Nanthancode Rajarajeswari Temple, Vyasagiri at Machel and several other temples in the city.
