Call to propagate message of peace

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, OCT. 7. The Pondicherry- based Holistic Approach for People's Empowerment (HOPE) held a meeting recently as part of celebrations of the Millennium Peace Day.

Mr. Kavingar Durai Maaliraiyan, who presented the keynote address, said maintenance of peace was the responsibility of all people. There should be proper study to trace the origin for disruption of normal life through clashes and skirmishes in the society.

Rev. Fr. A. S. Anotonisamy said that the International Day of Peace had been declared by UNO. He said that non-governmental organisations should come together to create and sustain peace. Mr. Chevalier M. M. Houssain said peace, harmony and the concept of togetherness should begin at home. In a phased manner, it would develop to cover the whole world. Mr. Joseph Victor Raj, managing trustee of HOPE, also spoke. NGOs should come forward to function in an utterly transparent manner, the meeting resolved.

The youth should be specifically taken care of by NGOs and their talents channelised to function as a Shanthi Sena in society.
