A lively affair in store

NEW DELHI, OCT. 7. A competitive field is likely to make it a lively affair in the 33rd Ladies Northern India Open golf championship to be held at the Delhi Golf Club course here from October 10 to 13.

For the third consecutive year, the sponsor Siel Limited has announced a Honda City car as the prize for the first hole-in-one at the fifth hole. There will also be a Honda lawn mower for similar achievement at the twelfth hole and an Usha Janome sewing machine for a hole-in-one at the 17th hole.

Defending champion, 16-year-old Irina Brar of Chandigarh, the champion of 1998 Shruti Khanna, Parnita Garewal, Anjali Chopra, Vandana Aggarwal, Shalini Malik, Ayesha Kapur, Lalitha Balasubramaniam, Guneet Raikhey and Priyanka Dey are some of the players scheduled to compete in the championship.

The event is one of the four regional tournaments for the women, and one of the eight overall that help them present their case to get selected for national teams.

Concurrently, the Delhi Ladies Open week will be held which will feature the Siel junior girls tournament over 72 holes for players below 18 years. Irina Brar, Mayali Talwar and Neha Majithia will be in the fray for the top honours in this section.
