Kulsoom Nawaz released
ISLAMABAD, OCT 13. Authorities in Pakistan have withdrawn the
detention order of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of deposed premier
Nawaz Sharif, and released her late on Thursday night.
Begum Kulsoom was detained for seven days at the residence of a
leader of Pakistan Muslim league(PML) women's wing in the city of
Rawalpindi on October 11 after she led a caravan of cars from
Peshawar as part of the party's "black day" observation on the
first anniversary of the military coup in the country. She
remained in detention for the whole day on Thursday and was not
allowed to take part in a protest meeting in Rawalpindi in
connection with the black day.
Later the district administration of Rawalpindi delivered an
order of detention for seven days. However, she was freed on
Thursday.
Besides detaining Kulsoom Nawaz, police had also arrested around
300 PML activists to foil attempt of holding any rallies on the
"black day".
