7 killed, 15 hurt in road mishap

KOLAR GOLD FIELDS, OCT. 13. Seven persons were killed and at least 15 were injured in a road accident that took place near Hanumanahalli on the Bangalore Chennai National Highway on Thursday midnight.

According to sources, a goods tempo carrying more than 30 persons from Kolar dashed against a stationary lorry on the road side killing two persons on the spot. Three succumbed to injuries on way to hospital and another two died in the hospital.

It is reported that all the 30 persons travelling in the tempo were going to Mulbagal to attend an urus.

It is reported that the lorry with Tamil Nadu registration was parked on the road side as it had developed some technical snag, and the driver was attending to it, while the cleaner was waving a torch at moving vehicles indicating that the lorry was parked there. However, the tempo driver could not control the vehicle and dashed against the stationary lorry.

The lorry cleaner, Jayaram (25) of Chennai, who was waving the torch, and Amjad Pasha (16), resident of Noornagar in Kolar, who was travelling in the tempo, were killed on the spot.

The other deceased have been identified as Saleem (25) of Rahamathnagar in Kolar, Fayaz Pasha (24) of Shahidnagar of Kolar, Mubarak Pasha (15) of Millatnagar, Kolar, Rahamathulla (30) of New Town Bethamangala and Firoz (25) of Durgah Mohalla, Bangarpet. It is reported that all the deceased except Jayaram were relatives and friends, and had hired the tempo to take them to Mulabal for attending the urus.

Mr. Pranab Mohanthy, Superintendent of Police, rushed to the spot at around 1 a.m. on Friday and made arrangements to shift the injured to Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College Hospital.
