LDF bags corpn. standing committees

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 13. The LDF secured all the standing committees in the City Corporation on expected lines, in the elections held today. Members to all the committees except the one on Finance were elected unopposed.

In the 11-member standing committees on Finance, Development, Welfare, Works, Town Planning and Taxes, the LDF bagged seven seats and the Opposition four each. The committee on Health has seven LDF members and six of the Opposition.

The Independent councillor, Mr. Chalai Mohan, who represents the Manacaud ward, made his way to the crucial Finance committee securing seven votes in the preferential voting system. The Kesavadasapuram councillor, Mr. B. Sathyan, topped the tally with eight votes. Ms. Chandrika Radhakrishnan of the Congress(I) was eliminated. Three votes were declared invalid.

The LDF Independent, Mr. Vinodkumar, finds a place in the Welfare Committee while the Congress(I) rebel, Mr. Vanchiyoor Surendran, is on the Town Planning committee.

The following is the list of committee members: Finance: G.R. Anil, Mr. Karunakaran Nair, Kunnukuzhy Manoharan, Chalai Mohan, Johnson Joseph, Thampanoor Satish, S.Pushpalatha, S. Sreekumar, B. Sathyan, V.S. Sandhya, and Sudarsanan.

Development: Happykumar, Brigitte Franklin, V.S. Vijayakumar, Puthenkada Vijayan, B. Soman, Gopakumar, Augustine Leen, Lekha Rani, Jayamohanan, Mannamoola Rajan and Maheswaran Nair.

Welfare: R. Harikumar, Molly Stanley Satyanesan, Ajitha Sankar, Gopinathan Nair, S.Unnikrishnan, S.Jalajakumary, Sulochana Thankappan, Maria Dasi, Mohammed Kasim, M. Vinodkumar and T. Sethulakshmy.

Health/ Education: K.C. Vikraman, A.J. Sukarno, Attipra Asokan, Rajendra Das, Perunthanni Vijayan, Sreekumary Gopalakrishnan Nair, Kadakampally Mohan, Nedumom V.Mohanan, Pattom Sreekumar, Vanaja Rajendra Babu, R.Madhavan Nair, K.S.Vinu and Chandrika Radhakrishnan.

Works: Rajasekharan Nair, Harshan, P.S.Jayalakshmy, Sujatha, Vazhuthacaud Narendran, M.P.Saju, Xavier Lopez, Poonthura Siraj, S.Lekha, V.S.Padmakumar and Ratheendran.

Town Planning: Vanchiyoor Surendran, Beroma Patrick, T.V.Ajithkumar, Susobha Thampy, Palayam Rajan, P.Syamkumar, Vandithadom K.Madhu, Saiju, Chitralekha, Nadabindu and Subhashini.

Taxes: V.G.Latha, Baby Sarojam, Krishnan Potti, S.Anilkumar, Lalitha Bai, K.Krishnankutty, C.Rajan, R.Rajendran, Mallika, Ambika Krishnan and Nufaiza Beevi.

While the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Sujanapriyan, is the ex-officio chairman of the Finance standing committee, the chairpersons of the other committees will be elected on October 17. The LDF appears to have finalised the names of the chairpersons. While the panel on development is likely to be headed by Mr. B. Soman, the one on welfare may be chaired by Mr. Vinodkumar. In all probability, the chairman of the Health committee will be Mr. K.C. Vikraman. Mr. V.S. Padmakumar may be the choice for chairmanship of the Works panel while that of the Taxes panel is likely to be Ms.Lalitha Bai.

The Mayor, Ms. J. Chandra, presided over the meeting today.
