Storm alert in coastal districts
By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 15. An atmospheric pressure system lay 500 km
south- east of Visakhapatnam coast at 5.30 p.m. today moving in a
north- westerly direction and likely to intensify into a deep
depression by early hours of Monday. Medium to high cloud
formation was seen all over the State.
A distant cautionary signal No. 1 was hoisted at all ports along
the coast from Kalingapatnam to Krishnapatnam, Cyclone Warning
Centre officials said. Fishermen have been advised not to venture
into the sea.
Today, no significant rainfall was recorded in any of the coastal
areas and the CWC was monitoring the progress of the system and
collecting all technical data to caution the State Government.
Rainfall and showers were likely from tomorrow morning in some
coastal areas going by the progress of the system till this
evening, the CWC officials said.
Our Hyderabad Special Correspondent adds:
The State Government put on alert the districts of Srikakulam,
Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and
Nellore.
The Collectors of these districts have been asked to take all
necessary steps, including evacuation of people from vulnerable
coastal villages, if necessary. Control rooms have been activated
at the Secretariat and in all these districts.
The Collectors have also been asked to keep ready some schools
and such other places for opening relief camps if needed, said
Mrs. Grace Saroja, Deputy Director, acting as Incharge of Relief
and Rehabilitation, in the absence of Mr. D. C. Rosaiah,
Secretary, Revenue, who is away in Delhi.
The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, reviewed the
