No let-up in Cong. infighting

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, OCT. 15. There is no let-up in infighting in the Congress(I) over the organisational elections. Two Congress(I) legislators and a District Returning Officer (DRO) issued statements, on Sunday, flaying their party colleagues who spoke against the State party leadership.

The Srikakulam DRO, Dr. V. Sivaramakrishna Rao, a former MLA, denied the allegations that he did not cooperate with the DCC(I) president, Mr. G. Haribabu. He in fact accused Mr. Haribabu of not cooperatiing with him in the conduct of elections.

He said he wanted to visit Srikakulam on September 19 but was requested by the DCC chief not to come. Again he wanted to go over to the town on October 2 but the DCC president suggested that the visit be put off to October 9. He said he had consulted legislators, MPs, ex-MLAs, ex-MPs and others in completing the first phase of elections covering the booths, but the DCC president hatched a conspiracy to subvert the process.

In another statement, Mr. D. Prasada Rao, Narsannapet MLA, alleged that Mr. Haribabu managed to hold on to the post of DCC president for the past 11 years by conveying false information to the seniors in Hyderabad. At a time when the PCC, CLP and other wings of the party were working in close coordination, the DCC president sought to malign the party by attacking the leadership, he said.

Mrs. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Chevella MLA, in another statement, criticised K. Ram Reddy, former Minister, who spoke about irregularities in the conduct of elections in Ranga Reddy district. She alleged that Mr. Reddy encouraged groups and destroyed the party in the district.

She said the DRO of the district, Mr. Veda Vyas, did not consult any leader of the district, including her in appointing AROs. She deplored the attack against the PCC president by Mr. Ram Reddy and others.
