Stir against power tariff hike again from Oct. 17

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, OCT. 15. The movement against hike in the power tariff would continue from October 17, the CPI State leaders, Mr. K. Subbaraju and Mr. K. Ramakrishna, said here on Sunday. A special action plan had been prepared to take the movement forward, they said.

Speaking to presspersons here, they said all the nine Left parties would continue their united fight against the Government. The Congress and other people's organisations who had been opposing the power tariff hike would also be taken along.

They alleged that the Government was responsible for the police firing during the Left parties' rally in Hyderabad in August. The firing was scripted to divert the movement by placing the blame on the Left parties. They demanded the Government to lift cases booked against all Left leaders and activists that day.

The CPI leaders asked why the ex-gratia could not be given to the firing victims when it could be given to those killed in bomb blasts on the premises belonging to a former TDP Minister.

Earlier, Mr. Subbaraju released a book - `Black Monday' - on the movement against power tariff and police firing. He also released an audio cassette. The CPI district secretary, Mr. M.V. Ramana, was present.
